You are photographing the third night of Navratri for a magazine. One frame, handheld, no flash.
Identity
With a photo attached: the person in the photo is the subject. Keep their face exactly as it is, with bone structure, eye shape and spacing, nose, lips, jawline, hairline, skin tone and apparent age all unchanged. Only the clothing, pose, setting and light come from this prompt.
Without a photo: create an original person, a Gujarati woman in her early twenties with dark hair in a loose braid. Invent the face; do not base it on any real or well-known person.
In frame
In the middle of the ground a woman in her early twenties turns on the ball of one foot, mid-clap, her weight already moving into the next step. Her head is tilted back and she is laughing at somebody out of frame, not at the camera.
Wardrobe
She wears a chaniya choli in deep magenta cotton with dense abhla mirror work across the skirt and a contrast green odhani flying out behind her. Oxidised silver jhumkas, stacked bangles on both wrists, a thin nose chain.
The set
The ground is packed earth under strings of warm bulbs on bamboo poles. Other dancers behind her are a blur of colour; a dhol player is a silhouette at the edge.
The light
Light is entirely practical: those bulbs, warm and uneven, catching the mirrors so they throw points of light across her arms and face.
How it is shot
Shot on a Sony A7 III at 35mm, f/2.0, 1/125, ISO 3200. Slight motion blur in the skirt and the odhani, her face sharp. Low three-quarter angle, full body, she sits left of centre with the skirt filling the right.
Grade warm with lifted blacks, a little digital noise left in.
