What SciSpace does

SciSpace helps with the reading end of research. Open a paper and it explains selected passages, equations and tables in plain language, answers questions about the document, and highlights the methods and findings, which lowers the barrier when reading outside your specialism. Around that it offers literature search across a large paper index, comparison tables across multiple papers, citation generation, paraphrasing and an academic writing assistant that drafts with references attached. A browser extension brings the explanation feature to papers you find elsewhere. It suits students, early-career researchers and professionals reading technical literature occasionally. The limitations are accuracy and dependence: explanations of dense methodology are sometimes subtly wrong, the writing assistant can produce text that resembles scholarship without the underlying reasoning, and relying on explanations rather than the paper itself is a poor foundation for anything you will publish.

How to use it

Sign up at typeset.io; a free tier allows limited questions and uploads, with paid plans for heavier use. The fastest way to understand the tool is to upload a paper outside your field and highlight a paragraph you do not follow, which returns a plain-language explanation in the side panel. Use it that way, passage by passage, rather than asking it to summarise the whole paper, because sentence-level explanation is where it is most reliable. The literature search and comparison table are useful for surveying a topic before a proper review, letting you line up methods and findings across several papers. Install the browser extension so the same help is available on publisher sites. Two cautions worth taking seriously: verify any explanation of methodology or statistics against the paper itself before repeating it, and treat the writing assistant as a drafting aid, disclosing its use where your institution or publisher requires.
